On May 3, 2011 the National Academy of Sciences announced the election of 72 new members and 18 foreign associates from 15 countries in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.

Herbert Levine; Professor, department of physics, University of California, San Diego, La Jolla.Herbert attended the 2003 NAKFI Conference on Signaling, Decisions and Meaning.
Andrew J. McCammon; Investigator, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and Joseph E. Mayer Chair of Theoretical Chemistry, departments of chemistry and biochemistry and the department of pharmacology, University of California, San Diego, La Jolla. Andrew served on the NAKFI Steering Committee on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from 2004-2005.
Neil H.Shubin; Robert R. Bensley Professor and associate dean, department of organismal biology and anatomy, University of Chicago, Chicago. Neil was the 2009 National Academies Communications Awards Book Winner.
