LAST CHANCE to Apply for NAKFI Conference on Advanced Nuclear Technologies

DEADLINE TO APPLY MARCH 20, 2013; 3:00 PM PACIFIC TIME
The National Academies Keck Futures Initiative (NAKFI), a project of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine, with generous support from the W.M. Keck Foundation, is seeking candidates to apply for this year’s conference on Advanced Nuclear Technologies. The NAKFI conference will bring together a diverse group of individuals – from physicists, chemists, nuclear engineers, nano scientists, medical researchers, and ethicists to representatives from the scientific media, and public and private funding organizations – to explore the future of advanced nuclear technologies. Attendees will be challenged with identifying cutting-edge nuclear technologies that provide significant benefits to human welfare, the environment, and economy while considering the legitimate environmental, societal, and ethical obligations associated with developing and managing these technologies throughout their lifecycle. Individuals are encouraged to apply for the chance of becoming part of what any have called a “spectacular and intellectually-stimulating” experience.

This year’s conference will be held November 15-17,2013 at the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center in Irvine, California, beginning with a welcome reception the evening of November 14. Additional information about the conference, including the online application, is available at: http://www.keckfutures.org/conferences/advncd-nuclear-tech.html.

The NAKFI Steering Committee on Advanced Nuclear Technologies will review all applications and select approximately 100 attendees. Following the conference, nearly $1 million in seed grant monies will be available to participants on a competitive basis in the amounts of $25,000, $50,000, $75,000 and $100,000. The National Academies Keck Futures Initiative will pay for all expenses related to participants’ travel to and from the conference, and meals and lodging during the conference.
