The Smart Prosthetics Conference focused on the following challenges:
- Smarter materials: How to enhance prosthetics by improving how the device responds to stimulus in its local mechanical environment?
- Smarter connections: How to enhance prosthetics by improving the interaction betwen the individual's brain and/or nervous system and the device? Also, how far can we go with a "brainless" prosthetic to determine user intent and augment desired function?
- Smarter devices: How far can we improve prosthetics if we integrate the two approaches?
- Integration with other technologies: How to integrate the tools provided by "smart prosthetics" with pharmacological and surgical approaches, genomics, and stem cell therapies?
