Nobel Prize winner Eric Kandel won the 2007 Communication Award from the National Academies Keck Futures Initiative for his book In Search of Memory: The Emergence of a New Science of Mind .“I am simply thrilled to have my book recognized in this way by the National Academies the most significant scientific society in this country and one of which I feel very proud to belong.” Eric R. Kandel, M.D. was honored as the 2007 National Academies Communication Award recipient for his book In Search of Memory: The Emergence of a New Science of Mind. Dr. Kandel is the 2000 Nobel Laureate for Physiology or Medicine for his research on the physiological basis of memory storage in neurons. His other honors include the National Medal of Science, the Wolf Prize, the Gairdner Foundation International Award, the Charles A. Dana Award and the Lasker Award. Kandel has been a member of the National Academy of Sciences, Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience section, since 1974 and a member of the Institute of Medicine since 1988.

 
HHMI Investigator probes the synaptic connections between nerve cells in the humble sea slug to uncover some of the basic molecular mechanisms underlying learning and memory in animals ranging from snails to flies to mice and even in humans.
